From Shorter University:
Shorter University Associate Registrar Lindsey Smith received the university’s 2016 Staff Member of the Year Award, which was presented during Shorter’s recent Awards Day.
The award, based on nominations from faculty and staff, is given to an employee who has displayed helpfulness and encouragement to students, loyalty to the university, and effectiveness in fulfillment of job responsibilities and cooperation in relationships with fellow employees.
Mrs. Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Shorter University in December 2011, double majoring in Spanish and International Studies with a minor in Psychology. She became a full-time employee in the registrar’s office in January 2012. She had served as a student worker and as a temp worker in the office. As associate registar, Mrs. Smith performs degree audits, maintains the academic catalog, leads a student worker team, provides feedback and suggestions to the university’s Curriculum Committee regarding how proposed changes will impact students and existing degree requirements, and provides a logical perspective that helps ensure efficient office operations.
“Lindsey Smith goes the extra mile at all times in order to provide excellent service to internal and external customers while achieving an exceptionally high level of effectiveness,” said Registrar Justin Mitchell. “I value her contributions to our team and am grateful to have the opportunity to work with her.”
In addition to her work in the registrar’s office, Mrs. Smith also volunteers as an advisor for Shorter’s chapter of the Zeta Tau Alpha National Sorority.
“Each year, our Staff Member of the Year Award recognizes one of the many dedicated staff members here who consider their work to be a calling,” said Shorter University President Dr. Don Dowless. “In addition to a commitment to honoring Jesus Christ through her life, Lindsey Smith demonstrates helpfulness and encouragement to students.”
“Being chosen for this award is incredibly meaningful,” Mrs. Smith said. “Truly, there are a lot of amazing individuals working at this institution so to be nominated and then selected for this is very humbling and incredibly encouraging. It is always reassuring to know that your hard work is appreciated, and I’m grateful to be surrounded by some really wonderful people here.”
Mrs. Smith is married to Nolan Smith, who is also a graduate of Shorter University.
