Last Friday, the buses were loaded with Football players, Cheerleaders, and Band Members along with parents and fans all heading to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Rome High arrived ready to defend their State Championship title and their opponents, Warner Robins Demons were on site, ready to play. One problem, the GHSA decided, after traveling in the snow, to postpone the game until Friday December 15, 2017 at 7:30pm. No neutral ground would be found to play the game and the location was decided by a coin toss. Warner Robins won that coin toss and now the Rome High Wolves will head to Warner Robins, to defend their AAAAA State Championship title.
What we know at this point: There are no new tickets to be sold for the game in Warner Robins. All tickets that were purchased for the game at Mercedes-Benz, along with any ticket stubs from last week, will be honored in Warner Robins. Rome City School System will also be closed on Friday to allow the students, faculty, and community to attend the game. The statement from the Rome City School System read:
Due to the inclement weather on Friday, December 8, the Rome High School State Football Championship game was postponed. Over the weekend, I, along with Rome City Schools coaches and other system representatives worked tirelessly in order have the game moved to a neutral site. However, as it stands, Rome High School will travel to Warner Robins, Georgia Friday in order to play in the State Football Championship at 7:30 p.m.
In making our decision regarding school schedule as it pertains to this Friday, we have taken into consideration the location, transportation concerns, as well as major traffic conditions that are known to occur en route to Warner Robins. Based on this information accompanied by the projected attendance of students, parents, teachers, and community members, Rome City Schools has decided that Friday, December 15, will be a field trip day for students, faculty, and staff. As a result, all schools will be CLOSED. Safety is our number one concern and our intent is to give everyone that wishes to attend the game plenty of time to get to the stadium safely. We hope that by making this decision early, parents will have time to make arrangements for their children if they are not attending the game.
All pre-sale tickets for games scheduled at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Friday, December 8 will be honored for the game on December 15. Presale tickets will have priority entrance into McConnell-Talbert Stadium until 6:45.p.m., after which time game day tickets sale spectators will be allowed entrance, provided local authorities continue to allow spectators into the stadium.
Students, parents, and faculty, and community members are encouraged to go to the game to help support the Rome Wolves Football team in their quest for a second consecutive Georgia High School Association AAAAA State Football Championship. Please be sure to arrive as early as possible due to limited seating. Thank you for your continued support of all the programs within Rome City Schools! GO WOLVES!!!
