The disease that ranks No. 6 when it comes to cause of deaths in Georgia is now reported to be costing the state $7.6 billion annually.
A newly-released report by Peach State Health Plan indicates that the billions account for medical costs and loss of productivity for the 1.3 million Georgians that have been diagnosed with diabetes, include 25% of the elderly population. That number is expected to reach 2 million over the next 10 years.
Georgia is also ranked No. 10 for highest number of cases of diabetes.
November is National Diabetes Month.
