Just in case you missed it, this week free-agent outfielder/relief pitcher/clubhouse psychologist Jonny Gomes has agreed to a one-year deal with the Rakuten Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League.
Pending a physical, Gomes is expected to join the team this month at their spring training camp in Okinawa, a team official said.
No financial terms on the deal have been released yet.
The 35-year-old Gomes has played with seven teams in Major League Baseball, and has accumulated two World Series rings with the Boston Red Sox in 2013 and the Kansas City Royals last season.
In 13 seasons, he has batted .242 with 162 home runs and 526 RBIs. Last season, he batted a combined .213 with seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 95 games for the Atlanta Braves and Kansas City.
