2015 Record: 9-4 overall, 6-2 Sun Belt
After a perfect 8-0 Sunbelt Conference title run in 2014, the Eagles decided to one-up that with a first ever bowl appearance last season; and they decided it’d be best to just go ahead and win while they were at it.
A huge question for Georgia Southern will be its new head coach Tyson Summers, who returns home after a run as the defensive coordinator at Colorado State. He was the GSU safeties coach in 2006.
Redshirt junior quarterback Kevin Ellison returns this season with a ton of experience under his belt, having seen playing time in nearly ever game over the last three season.
The biggest offensive gift the Eagles have for stability in 2016 will be the return of 2015 Doak Walker semi-finalist running back Matt Breida. He had 1,608 yards and 17 touchdowns last season, and led the nation with 7.9 yards-per-carry.
Southern looks to replace a very talented linebacker in Antwione Williams, who was drafted by the Lions in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Look for Bernard Dawson and Darrius Sapp to make waves for GSU on the defensive side of things.
